Zuri
On 20 May 2026 Zuri was discovered stuck in a septic pit near Voi. The Voi team and KWS got her out and flew her to the Nursery, and she joined the other orphans three days later. What a start to life, but she's safe now, and one day she'll return to the wild.

Tytan
Tytan is a brave little black rhino with a remarkable start to life. He survived a perilous cliff face and two nights alone before he was found, and he's here today thanks to that grit.

Daba
In September 2025 the SWT/KWS dog unit came across Daba, then about eight months old, alone on Galana Ranch. He went first to the Voi unit and then on to the Nursery in October. Now he's growing up among other orphans, with a team of people devoted to his care.

Alia
Rescuers came across Alia at dusk on 15 October 2025 in the Tsavo area, weak and thin with no herd in sight. She travelled to the Nursery alongside Daba and is now much more confident.

Arthi
In August 2025 a pilot flying an anti-poaching patrol over Tsavo East saw Arthi on his own. After one night at Kaluku he was flown to the Nursery. Spotted just in time, he now has a new family of orphans and Keepers around him.

Kipekee
Kipekee's mother had been wounded by arrows and couldn't feed her. The calf, around four weeks old and starving, turned up alone in a Maasai Mara boma. Her mother had surgery but died the next day. Her mother couldn't be saved, but Kipekee was, and the Keepers are raising her so that one day she can go home to the wild.

Wamata
Wamata was seen alone from the air near the Tiva River in Tsavo East in September 2024, and a helicopter took her to the Nursery. From a lonely start, she's now growing up surrounded by care, with the wild waiting for her when she's ready.

Olomunyak
Several elephants had died in the area when Olomunyak was found in the Maasai Mara, alone except for a bull who couldn't feed him. Rangers kept lions away from him through the night until Keepers arrived by plane. Thanks to the rangers who stayed with him through the night, he has a future to grow into.

Pardamat
In July 2023 Pardamat's mother was speared in the Pardamat Conservation Area. The yearling found his way into a boma, was flown to the Nursery and quickly settled in.

Talek
Talek was spotted by a safari driver near Talek in the Maasai Mara, following a bull. The Mara Vet Unit checked on her and confirmed in June 2023 that she needed rescuing. That safari driver's sharp eyes gave her a second chance at life.

Mzinga
Mzinga was only a month old when she was found by herself near Msinga Hill in Tsavo East in February 2022. A plane brought her to the Nursery the following morning. That quick journey saved her life, and today she shares a close bond with Nyambeni.

Nyambeni
In May 2022 a Meru farmer heard Nyambeni, then three months old, crying in a muddy ditch and called KWS. Mzinga is now her closest friend. Thanks to that farmer, she got a second chance, and a best friend along the way.

Muridjo
During the 2022 drought Muridjo spent days on her own before she was found sheltering in bushes on Ol Malo Ranch. Thin and weak on arrival, she has become a very sociable calf.

Taroha
In March 2023 KWS rangers found Taroha alone close to Lake Jipe in Tsavo West. His health was shaky at first, but he has grown stronger and is now close to Mokogodo.

Solio
Solio was rescued in 2010 after a traumatic start to life, and was cared for over the years that followed until she was ready to go back to the wild. She has since rejoined the rhino population of Nairobi National Park, where she lives a free and independent life. In September 2019 she had her first calf, fathered by a dominant bull, and the tiny calf now follows close at her side.

Maxwell
Max was about a year old when Keepers heard him crying alone in the forest with no sign of his mother, and he followed them 3 km to safety. He turned out to be blind in both eyes, and surgery in January 2008 confirmed a congenital condition that means his sight can never be restored. He now has a forever home at the Nursery, where he's a happy rhino who loves a face rub, a good scratch and the odd banana.

Magnum
Magnum was born on 30 January 1997 to Scud, an orphaned rhino who sadly had to be put to sleep when he was just three weeks old. After weeks of searching for her, he found comfort in Magnet, another young orphan, and the two grew up side by side at the Nairobi Nursery until they set out on their own in 2001. Losing Magnet some time later hit him hard, but Magnum has since found his feet, spending time with a wild cow and her calf in the Park while still dropping by his old stockade now and then.
