Elephants at Elephant Nature Park
Navaan
Navaan was born at the park before dawn on 28 October 2012. Navaan's whole life has been spent in safety, free of chains and work.
Asian elephant
ThongAe
ThongAe was conceived through forced breeding, with her mother chained while a bull was made to mate with her. Born into that cruelty, she now has a gentler life at the park, far from the chains her mother knew.
Resident since 2017
Mae Sri Nuan
Sri Nuan and Dok Ngern were brought from Surin Province together at the end of 2005, and Sri Nuan has been healing from her past at the park since.
Resident since 2005
Medo
Medo was put to work in logging as a youngster. Hauling a log, she broke her right ankle; it never healed properly, and her working days ended. At the park she never has to haul another log, and can move at her own pace.
Resident since 2006
KhamLa
KhamLa's mother worked at a Kanchanaburi trekking camp. KhamLa was separated from her, broken through the phajaan and trained to perform until she was rescued. Today she's back with her mother, Mae Baitoey, and nobody will ever make her perform again.
Resident since 2015
Jokia
Forced to haul logs illegally, Jokia lost a calf while working. Someone later fired a slingshot at her, leaving her blind in both eyes. Lek arranged her rescue in 1999. She can't see the world around her, but at the park she can finally feel safe in it.
Resident since 1999
FaaMai
FaaMai, born on 17 April 2009, was the park's first calf born to a resident: her mother, Mae Bua Thong, had arrived in July 2005. She has known nothing but freedom from her very first day.
Asian elephant
Pookie
After Thailand's 1989 logging ban, Pookie moved from logging to a trekking camp. She came to the park in June 2015. Since then, her days have been spent in open countryside rather than on a trekking trail.
Resident since 2015
Manao
Manao was bred at a camp offering rides and shows, separated from her mother and broken to perform. She was one of 20 elephants rescued in June 2015, and Mae Malee became her nanny.
Resident since 2015
Thong Suk (Jungle Boy)
Thong Suk was 18 months old when his mother, Mae Boon Na, was sent back to work, and he was rescued. Dok Mai and Yindee are his calves. Rescued young, he has grown into a father himself.
Resident since 2003
Hope
When Hope's mother, a trekking elephant, died of illness, his owner called Lek. The park's team raised him by hand. His name says it all: he was raised by people who refused to give up on him.
Resident since 2002
Chang Yim
Dok Ngern gave birth to Chang Yim at the park on 12 July 2009. He has never worked, and his training uses only positive reinforcement.
Asian elephant
Mae Baitoey
Mae Baitoey worked at a trekking camp, where she was bred against her will. KhamLa, the calf she had in 2011, was rescued later and brought back to her at the park. Mother and daughter are together again, where they belong.
Resident since 2015
Rattana Kham
Rattana Kham's 4.5 km walk into the park was the first time she had ever been free of chains on her neck and legs. Every day since has been free of them.
Resident since 2020
Warunee
Separated from her mother at a young age, Warunee was used for logging and later for trekking. She left a camp in Kanchanaburi in June 2015 and is inseparable from Dao Ruang.
