Residents at Reteti Elephant Sanctuary
Long'uro
Long'uro fell into a well in Loisaba Conservancy at a month old in April 2020. A hyena had taken two-thirds of his trunk and he can't see from his left eye, but he has learned to cope with his disabilities. He's proof of how much an elephant can overcome with the right people beside him.
Resident since 2020
Lomunyak
Lomunyak lost his mother at two months old and almost drowned in the Ewaso Nyiro River; camp security staff hauled him out in April 2020. He plays the role of a fun-loving older brother to Long'uro.

Lerai
No herds had been seen for days when Lerai was found by herself around Sosian Ranch. She came to Reteti on 15 July 2020 and has a calm, patient nature. She's growing up in the care of the Reteti team, with the hope of one day joining a wild herd.

Seek
Seek, who is blind in his left eye, lost his mother near Nanyuki at a year old and arrived at Reteti on New Year's Eve 2020. These days he leads the other orphans out to graze.
Resident since 2020
Ngaremara
At two months old, injured and on her own, Ngaremara took refuge close to Turkana homes. Her herd didn't come back within 72 hours, so she was rescued in May 2022. Her rescue gave her the chance to heal and, one day, find her way back to a wild herd.
Resident since 2022
Milgis
Milgis was four months old when she slipped into a deep well while her herd drank, during the 2022 drought. Samburu herders came across her, and a helicopter brought her to Reteti. Thanks to those herders, she's safe now and growing up among other orphans.
Resident since 2022
Naisimari
In October 2022, aged one week, Naisimari was pulled from a well in Kalepo Conservancy. Her mother had injured her trunk, so the two couldn't be reunited. She has had to start life without her mother, but the Reteti team is giving her every chance.
Resident since 2022
Laankailerr
Laankailerr stood guard over his dead mother and then lived on his own for weeks until herders found him in 2023. He is building friendships, including with Nachapa.

Kimani
